Hand shaking can tell you about another person in one quick interaction. Handshakes can make or break a deal. Do you get nervous if you know someone is arriving to your office and you have to get up, walk across the room, and shake their hand? It is not uncommon, especially if you don’t know who they are yet. The anxiety reflects in your handshake, and your demeanor too.
When we are anxious we are usually thinking of the “what ifs” that are negative and include failures. Thinking of the end result becomes the source of the stress.
Taking your attention off those “what ifs” and focusing your attention fully on your body, takes the charge off your reaction to handshaking. As you begin to walk across the room, let your neck be free of tension and your back too. Let the head move gently up off the spine all the way across the room to the moment you connect hand to hand with another, and through the action of handshaking. You cannot afford one moment of thought on a “what if” or it will bring up your anxiety.
You can be assured your handshake will relay a person of stature; of someone who is in control of themselves and standing in their power. Tense and anxious handshakes give the impression of weakness and fear. Organizing your neck, head, and back brings integration and strength to the body, and therefore your emotions too.
